Lisa J's contribution to Deb's Book

For the past month I've been working away on Deb's brilliant and imaginative book "through the looking glass." Along with her amazing artwork, Deb has composed a charming love story in the form of a journal entry written by Maude to accompany her book.

Maude's story begins in January 1896 with her leaving London to meet up with her secret lover Damien in the city of romance. Her husband has recently passed away leaving Maude a substantial fortune. With this inheritance, she purchases an eye glass and sets off to see the world with Damien. Maude's pretentious husband never would have married her had he known of her impediment. What Maude sees on her journey is up to us...

For my part, I've created a page inspired by Victorian style that portrays passionate devotion between soon to be united lovers...

  3. I'm still reeling over this, Lisa. The calendar is just awesome - I can't believe you sourced a calendar from 1896! Holy crap but that is just such a special thing to do and I will treasure this till the end of my days...and then this book wil lbecome an heirloom piece.

  5. you are so very welcome, lisa. and sorry for being MIA yesterday -- i was trying to work and catch up on emails but i sewed instead. i made a bonnet! ;)

and yeah, how/where did you score an 1896 calendar!? you are a clever thing! i am still just in awe... and probably will be forever.

  6. Alicia.. You have to post your bonnet! I am dying to see it! I bet it's spectacular!

I found the calendar in digital form on Etsy. I'd actually found another on Ruby Lane but the Etsy one was better as it contained all 12 months.

  7. i did post my bonnet :) it's on my blog, sweetness. it's not that great but it's ever so fun to me anyway. i was surprised it even resembles the shape of my head.

that so totally rocks about the calendar! that is a hugely fantastic score! you rock!

i'm off to reluctantly spend some gift cards we got for christmas. i wasn't going to buy anything other than used or handmade, but i guess technically we aren't buying it. i think i'll be really boring and go for organic cotton napkins or a recycled material doormat. ;)

  8. Been off in another world again, can you believe it Gastro straight after I go back to work again! Now that I can actually get out of bed and focus on something this wonderful post is up! This really is the most amazing piece Lisa! Love everything about it! Ruby Lane has some fantastic bits, and I do love that old calendar, what a find!

  9. Thanks Kim and Deb.Ruby Lane is awesome..i love that you can save your goodies on a wish list and then they send updates. Sorry to hear you've had the muck Kim. I torched a tortilla in my oven yesterday and had to use a fire extinguisher to put it out which means a new oven and a week of cleaning out my kitchen...note to self.. never blog while cooking!

  10. Ha ha...and oh dear...
Tortillas and blogging are a dangerous mix by the sound of it. I'm making a note to myself in fact! Ooooh and I must go and check out Ruby Lane...I figured it was a digital (my god, I would have flown over to you and personally hugged you if it had been the real thing, lol!!

  11. oh no, i didn't know you had to get a new oven, too! yikes! still sounds like something i would do.

i hope you feel better soon, kim! and debs, you need a nap when you guys get back from your adventures -- that should fix your grammer right up. ;)

  13. If the calendar was real...I wouldn't be anymore.HA.

The oven disaster just reconfirms that my husband did not marry me for my cooking...which is something he frequently reminds me. I really couldn't care less about food..it's very low on my list of priorities...obviously.

Kim...I hope you're feeling better by now!
